Simply put, “Prana” means energy and “ayama” means distribution of energy in Sanskrit. Even pregnant ladies can do Pranayama and benefit out of it.

 

Moreover, in the Valmiki Ramayana, it is stated that Lord Rama’s mother Kausalya Devi did Pranayama every day and there after she meditated upon her family deity – Lord Shri Ranganatha, as mentioned in the following sloka (lines) :

“Pranayamena purusham Dhyayamana Janaardhanam”
